Journey to the laid-back life on the islands where getting here is a breathtaking scenic adventure in itself. Various BC Ferry routes and Washington State ferries are conveniently scheduled to get you to Vancouver Island and the Gulf and Discovery Islands . (For complete schedules contact BC Ferries at www.bcferries.bc.ca. ). While aboard the ferries, visitors get their first glimpse of the beautiful marine landscape that surrounds the Island and may be lucky enough to encounter a migrating pod of whales or have dolphins lead the Ferry into port. Once you have landed on the Island no matter which way you turn there will always be a spectacular Provincial Park nearby for camping and/or exploring. At Goldstream Provincial Park in South Vancouver Island, you can watch salmon spawning in the fall, bald eagles at Christmas, view wildflowers in spring, and hike Mt Finlayson in summer. From French Beach you can watch the Grey Whale migration in spring and fall, or you can hike the rugged Juan de Fuca Marine Trail from China Beach to Botancial Beach. Northern Vancouver Island contains the vast wilderness of Strathcona Provincial Park home to Buttle Lake and Ralph River Campgrounds and a vast network of backcountry hiking opportunities, the remote tranquility of the Discovery Islands and the family fun sea shore of Miracle Beach. Also visit spectacular Elk Falls located on the Campbell River, self-proclaimed Salmon Capital of the world as well as several beautiful lake side parks; Loveland Bay, Morton and Schoen Lakes, with campgrounds all within an hours drive of one another. The Central Island is home to the world famous towering old growth giants of MacMillan Park 's Cathedral Grove, the sandy ocean shores at Rathtrevor Beach , spectacular Englishman River and Little Qualicum River falls. Over to the west coast of Vancouver Island is Sproat Lake home of the famous Mars Water Bombers gateway to Pacific Rim National Park , Barkley Sound and remote Hot Springs Cove.  Throughout Mid and North Vancouver Island and outlaying islands you will find Provincial Parks located on exquisite fresh water lakes, majestic mountains, rivers,cascading water falls, spectacular marine parks, hot springs and ancient RainForest Giants. Central and North Vancouver Island are the perfect destination for any style of camper from the lone back packer to families with kids to the seasoned RV'er to the avid birder. Each and every visitor will discover their own unique outdoor paradise.
