Location Fillongley Park is located on Denman Island . Take the Buckley Bay exit #101 from Hwy #19 and then take the Denman Island Ferry from Buckley Bay . Follow signs to the park once on Denman Island. Outdoor Activities Fillongly Park was once one of the most beautiful estates in the Gulf Islands. Today the homestead is gone but the remnants of it still exist. There is a large flat grassy field where a bowling green once was that blooms with vibrant wildflowers in the spring. The canopy is composed of imported deciduous trees and remnants of an orchard can be seen in late summer. There are ten campsites set beside the ocean. A hike through the parks trails allows visitors to observe the old-growth cedar forest, a salmon spawning stream and the remains of the old homestead. There are 2 km of wheelchair accessible walking trails through the park. One of these trails is a short 10 minute loop from the parking area through the meadow. Another trail heads west from the parking area and follows Beadnell Creek canyon through second-growth forest.
Picnicking The parks large grassy field is ideal for a blanket picnic. There are also tables overlooking the ocean and they are found close to the parking lot. Pit toilets and an information shelter are located at the parking area. Camping There are 10 vehicle accessible campsites at this park. The non-serviced sites are located close to the ocean and each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Fire bans may be implemented during the dry summer season, so pack in a portable stove for cooking. There is a cold water hand pump located approximately 75 meters from the campground but water must be boiled, treated or filtered prior to consumption. Prices Camping costs $21.00 per night and there is a second vehicle charge of $10.50. An extra unit is allowed in an occupied campsite but there is a double booking cost of $21.00. BC seniors over 65 with a gold card pay half price after Labour Day and prior to June 15th. During the full season seniors pay full price. Reservations To make a reservation in the campground please contact Discover Camping or phone them toll free at 1-800-689-9025. Fires Campfires are allowed in designated fire rings provided that a fire ban is not in effect. Firewood is provided to visitors and the cost is $7.00 per bundle or $18.00 for 3 bundles. To preserve vegetation and ground cover, please do not gather firewood from the area around your campsite or elsewhere in the park (this is a ticketable offence under the Park Act). Dead wood is an important habitat element for many plants and animals and it adds organic matter to the soil. It is illegal to burn wood or material from the forest because it is destructive and damages the protected ecosystems within the park. Nearby Parks There are wonderful day hikes on Denman Island and wonderful Island community. Sandy Island is just off the North tip of the Island and can be accessed at low tide by walking over the sandy spit - don't forget though that high tide would have you waiting on Sandy Island for the spit to reappear.
