Squitty Bay Provincial Park
Location
Squitty Bay Provincial Park is at the eastern end of Lasqueti Island. Lasqueti Island lies between central Vancouver Island and Texada Island. The park can be accessed by boat to Lasqueti Island. There is no vehicle ferry service to Lasqueti Island. A passenger ferry service departs from French Creek, between Parksville and Qualicum Beach. Bicycles, canoes and kayaks are allowed on the ferry for an extra cost.
Outdoor Activities
Squitty Bay is a small bay near the southeast tip of Lasqueti Island north of Young Point. Boaters can find anchorage in the bay, which is a welcome refuge from the windy, open waters of the Strait of Georgia.
This small park is a great place to have a picnic and explore the rocky headlands which are beautiful. Distant Mount Baker to the east and the Comox Valley Glacier, to the west are visible on clear days. Be careful where you walk and sit because ground-hugging prickly pear cacti grow here alongside Rocky Mountain juniper, far from its natural habitat.
Several rocks obstruct the entrance to the bay. The safest route by boat is along the south shore when entering. There is limited maneuvering room in the bay and no space for anchorage. A small federal dock is available to tie up, however it can often be crowded with boats.
The waters in and around this area are considered to be one of the best locations for cold water scuba diving.
The only facilities are picnic tables, pit toilets and a public dock.
Camping
Camping is not allowed in the park.
Fires
Campfires are not allowed at this park.
