Sproat Lake Provincial Park is located on Hwy #4 13 km northwest of Port Alberni on central VancouverIsland . The park sits on the north shore of Sproat Lake , and can be reached via Hwy #4. It is about 2 hours from Tofino, Uclulet and Long Beach . Outdoor Activities Hiking The upper campground and lower campgrounds and beach are connected by a highway underpass. Walking along the water to a small pier at the eastern end of Sproat Lake allows visitors to view one of the finest panels of ancient First Nations petroglyph's in British Columbia . You are also able to view the gigantic Martin Mars firefighting water bombers, which use the lake for their runway and base. Lake Activities The warm water in Sproat Lake is great for swimming. Most visitors swim near the boat launch in the day-use area and at the lower campground. There are no lifeguards on duty.
There is a boat launch available at this park, which is very busy during the summer season. This allows for water skiing, fishing and boating. The lake is ideal for windsurfing.
Fresh water fishing in Sproat Lake is permitted as per provincial and federal fishing regulations and is subject to closures. All anglers should check the current regulations issued by Fisheries and Oceans Canada prior to fishing. Specific closures will be posted in the park. Anyone fishing or angling in British Columbia must have an appropriate fishing license. Picnicking This park has three large picnic areas located next to the lower campground adjacent to the lake. These picnic sites have fresh water, campfire rings, a large grassy area, pit toilets, showers and flush toilet buildings. Parking There is an hourly charge for parking at a cost of $1.00 per hour up to maximum of $3.00 for an entire day. Parking is only allowed in designated areas but is abundant and situated directly adjacent to the beach and picnic areas Camping There are two separate campgrounds with vehicle accessible campsites in this park. Both campgrounds are reservable but there are first come, first serve sites for campers without a reservation. The Lower Campground is located adjacent to the lake. The 15 non-serviced sites are located near a flush toilet building that has hot showers. The showers are included in the price. The Upper Campground Located across the highway from the lake. The 44 non-serviced sites are well forested. There are pit toilets and water taps located throughout. The shower building in the lower campground is available to anyone wanting to use it. The showers are included in the price. Group Camping There is group camping available at Taylor Arm Provincial Park 10 min north of Sproat lake on HWY #4. A fresh water hand pump and pit toilets are located at the group campground. There are three group sites located at Taylor arm. There is a trail that links the campground to the lake via an underpass. Reservations must be made by calling 250-474-1336, RLC Enterprize Ltd. office
Upper campground Fees The prices for camping are seasonally adjusted to the provision of services . During the peak season camping fees are $21.00 per night and there is a second vehicle charge of $10.50 . Additional sleeping units are permitted in an occupied campsite but there is a camping fee charge of $21.00. BC seniors over 65 must provide a BC gold card to pay a half price of $10.50 prior to June 15th and after Labour Day. During the peak season seniors pay full price. Parking is $1.00 Hour or $3.00 a day in the day use lots. Lower campground Fees Camping costs $25.00 per night and there is a second vehicle charge of $12.00. An extra unit is allowed in an occupied campsite but there is a booking cost of $25.00. Winter camping costs are $10.00 per night. BC seniors over 65 must provide a BC gold card to pay a half price of the camping fees prior to June 15th and after Labour Day. During the peak season seniors pay full price. Group Camping Camping costs $16.00 per unit, per night. There is a 5 unit minimum for booking a group site therefore the deposit fee is $80.00. Youth Groups pay $50.00 per night. The group sites contain picnic tables, large group fire rings and hand pump for water. The large group camping area is divided into three sub-group sites so respect for neighbors is required. The sites provide full sun and the area is only a short distance from the beach through an underpass. . BC seniors over 65 with a gold card pay half price after Labour Day and prior to June 15th. During the full season seniors pay full price. Disabled people with a valid disability letter (information on www.bcparks.ca) from the provincial government can camp for free for a maximum of 2 weeks per park, per year. Fires Campfires are allowed in designated fire rings provided. During a fire ban fires are not allowed anywhere in the park. Firewood is available to visitors in the park at the Gatehouse at a cost of $7.00 per bundle or $18.00 for 3 bundles. As the park is an ecological reserve it is illegal to burn wood or material from the forest. Nearby Parks Stamp Falls Provincial Park is within a 20 minute drive from the park and is world renowned for fishing and viewing spawning salmon. Cathedral Grove at Macmillan Provincial Park and Little Qualicum Falls Provincial park are about 50 minutes south of Sproat Lake on HWY#4.
