Strathcona Corridor
There are two  campgrounds in the Strathcona Corridor: Buttle Lake and Ralph River.

Buttle Lake

Location
Follow Hwy 19 north past Courtenay to Campbell River . Then follow Hwy 28 west for 48 km. Hwy 28 passes through the northern section of the park and provides access to Buttle Lake. Gas and services are not available between Campbell River and Gold River .

Outdoor Activities
Buttle lake is a superb location for visitors to stay while exploring the surrounding beauty of the Strathcona Corridor. Swimmers can enjoy the buoyed swimming areas in Buttle Lake . There is no life guard on duty.  There is also a boat launch located near the campground. Boaters should be cautious of submerged stumps left behind when the reservoir was created.
There are many trails for hiking located in the Strathcona Corridor.

Picnicking
There are some picnic facilities located by the Buttle Lake boat launch as well as numerous other spots along the lake to pull over and enjoy the scenery.

Camping
Main Campground
Buttle Lake campground has 85 vehicle accessible campsites. The non-serviced sites are located in a second-growth Douglas fir forest. Buttle Lake has a well kept sandy beach and some campsites are located right on the lakeshore. Pit toilets and a drinking water hand pump are located in the campground. There is also an adventure playground for children. Some sites are reservable but there are first-come, first-served sites also available.

Group Camping
Driftwood Bay group campsite is located next to Buttle Lake . The single group site offers group camping with wheelchair accessible pit toilets and a covered picnic shelter with wood stove. The site is available by reservation only. To make a reservation contact  Discover Camping www.discovercamping.ca after January 2, 2011.
 

Marine Access Only Camping
There are marine camping opportunities at 5 marine camping areas on Buttle Lake and Upper Campbell Lake . There are 20 campsites and overnight fees apply from June 15 to September 30. Fee stations are located at the Buttle and Karst boat launches and day-use areas. All marine sites have tents pads and tables. There are no reservations taken for marine campsites.

Backcountry Wilderness Camping
Wilderness camping is allowed in other areas of the park. There is no fee and no facilities are provided. Camping is not permitted within 1 km of main roads or near fee collection areas. There are no reservations taken for backcountry sites. There is additonal hike in backcountry camping accessed from both the Buttle Lake and Forbidden Plateau sides of Strathcona Provincial Park.  For more information see our Strathcona Backcountry webpage.
    

Prices
Camping in the campground costs $16.00 per night and there is a second vehicle charge of $8.00. An extra unit is allowed in an occupied campsite but there is a double booking cost of $16.00.
Wilderness and Marine Camping costs $10.00 per night for adults aged 16 or older and $5.00 per night for youth. 
BC seniors over 65 with a gold card pay half price before June 15 and after Labor Day. There is no senior rate for Wilderness or Marine camping. During the full season seniors pay full price.

Fires
Campfires are allowed in designated fire rings provided that a fire ban is not in effect. Firewood is provided to visitors and the cost is $7.00 per bundle or $18.00 for 3 bundles. It is illegal to burn wood or material from the forest because it is destructive and damages the protected ecosystems within the park.

Ralph River

Location

Ralph River Campground is located 35 km south of Buttle Lake along the Buttle Lake (Western Mines) Road.

Outdoor Activities

Ralph River Campground is just one of the campgrounds available for visitors using Strathcona Park. The campground is located amidst lush natural beauty and some sites are located right along the river bank. This is a great place to stay and explore the many kilometers of trails available in the strathcona corridor.

Camping

Ralph River campground has 75 vehicle accessible campsites. The non-serviced sites are located in a towering old-growth Douglas fir forest. Pit toilets and a drinking water hand pump are located in the campground. Some sites are reservable but there are first-come, first-served sites also available.

Prices

Camping costs $16.00 per night and there is a second vehicle charge of $8.00. An extra unit is allowed in an occupied campsite but there is a double booking cost of $16.00.
